The Position

 

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Business Development, this position will support business development in the area of grant acquisition for the International Programs Department of Plan International Canada by leading on identifying new opportunities and facilitating proposal development. The Proposal Manager works closely with a diverse team of technical advisors, compliance managers, and program managers to develop high quality project design and proposal support for institutional and other funders such as corporates, foundations, and major donors.    

 

As the Proposal Manager, you will lead all processes related to project design, proposal writing and editing. You will support donor engagement and budget development, contracting and other donor and internal programmatic, financial and compliance requirements.

 

The Proposal Manager will also take a leading role in supporting Plan International Canada’s donor diversification strategy, which includes identifying new donors, prospecting, liaising with colleagues and counterparts in Plan offices to seek out new funding opportunities. This role includes coordinating and liaising closely with other Plan International offices, project partners and stakeholders to ensure proposals and related materials meet donor requirements, are clear, compelling and well-presented. The Proposal Manager will provide support to relevant activities, such as grants pipeline management and reporting.

What success looks like?

 

  • Supporting fund diversification and prospecting efforts by identifying and assessing new funding opportunities aligned with strategic priorities, and collaborating with regional and technical teams to advance high-potential leads into the proposal pipeline.
  • Working effectively with the International Programs Department to lead on coordination of project design and proposal development for quality funding proposals for a variety of donors.
  • Actively supporting Plan International’s country offices through the design and development of project proposals, concept notes, expressions of interest, budgeting and contracting support, and liaising with other Plan International offices globally and regionally.
  • Undertaking desk research and incorporating feedback from technical advisors in the areas of health, education, economic development, gender equality, climate change adaptation and protection to ensure technically sound project design.
  • Developing supplementary materials such as briefing notes, idea notes, capacity statements, infographics and presentations.
  • Coordinating efficient proposal development processes, procedures and systems, including through training, grants pipeline maintenance and CRM (customer relationship management) database management.
  • Supporting the achievement of the annual signing target for new grant acquisitions. 

As our ideal candidate you will have:

 

  • Demonstrated knowledge in business development, prospecting strategies, proposal management, and grant writing with a focus on participatory project design.
  • Prior business development experience, submitting proposals to a variety of institutional donors e.g., Global Affairs Canada, World Bank, UN agencies, and corporations.
  • Exceptional coordination and organizational skills with aptitude to manage multiple stakeholders in developing high quality proposals, as well as a strong ability to multi-task.
  • Very strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build productive working relationships within and between departments to produce common deliverables.
  • Strong writing and editing skills with the ability to research, analyze, synthesize and present information quickly and accurately in line with donor requirements. Also, exceptional attention to detail.
  • Broad-based understanding of multiple sectors in international development, such as education, health, gender equality, and economic development.
  • Familiarity with reviewing complex, detailed project budgets and contracts.
  • Advanced skills in MS Office applications (including Excel) and familiarity with CRM (Salesforce preferred).
  • Experience working in cross-functional teams and matrix environments with ability to manage ambiguity.
  • A flexible and adaptable work style; open to collaboration with diverse personalities; thrives in a fast-paced, evolving work environment and delivers under short deadlines.
  • Proficiency in French highly desirable. Proficiency in Spanish an asset.
  • Solid understanding of results-based management (RBM).
  • A passion for mission-driven work and personal values aligned with those of Plan International Canada’s organizational values.

Plan International Canada is a hybrid workplace. You will work from the office and from home.  

 

The salary range for this position is anticipated to be between $64,000 and $80,000. We comprehensively evaluate a variety of factors to determine fair compensation, including experience, specific job-related skills, and relevant educational or professional training. Additionally, we ensure that compensation is equitable across our team and aligns with current market trends. This role also qualifies for an extensive benefits package and generous paid time off.
