The Position
As part of our PR, Events and Influencer Engagement team, you’ll be stepping into a role where you’ll help bring global conversations about children’s rights and girls’ equality to life.
As the PR and Communications Specialist, you’ll support media moments, create compelling content, help drive campaigns and events, and pitch in across the team to amplify stories that matter.
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Media & Public Relations, you’ll dive into hands-on projects that build your skills – from supporting media outreach to contributing to milestone days and initiatives like the International Day of the Girl and Gifts of Hope. You’ll collaborate with other skilled communicators, learn how to shape a brand’s public presence, and play a key part in strengthening how Canadians connect with our mission.
This dynamic role is ideal for someone early in their PR and communications career who wants to build hands on experience and do work that genuinely makes a difference. You’ll jump into projects that support media outreach, events, partnerships, fundraising and advocacy efforts – all while helping to strengthen the public profile of our organization that’s driven by purpose, impact and a commitment to building a more equal world for girls everywhere.
What success looks like?
Media and communications
- Assist with media and issues monitoring, including daily news briefs.
- Support the development of media materials (e.g., pitches, news releases, backgrounders, media briefs).
- Assist the team in media outreach tasks, including research and maintaining media lists and pitch calendars.
- Provide support for communications related to organizational campaigns such as International Day of the Girl, Gifts of Hope, and International Women’s Day.
Content and creative
- Draft or refine content such as briefing notes, Q&As, speaking remarks and presentations.
- Help research and organize information and resources for internal and external communications.
Administrative and operational Support
- Provide scheduling, coordination, meetings and general administrative support, leveraging AI-assisted tools and workflows.
- Assist with procurement, invoicing and budgeting processes.
- Track monthly and campaign KPIs and turn this data into clear insights and reports.
Cross team‑ collaboration
- Support cross departmental projects in coordination with internal partners, vendors, freelancers, and agency stakeholders.
- Assist with the planning and execution of events.
- Support PR moments and communications needs related to Ambassadors, Influencers, partnerships, fundraising, and youth engagement activities.
- Assist team members as needed across a variety of communications tasks in a fast paced, collaborative environment.
As our ideal candidate you will have:
- An interest in communications, media and public relations. A Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing or relevant experience in a related discipline is an asset.
- Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills across diverse audiences, formats and channels.
- Strong project management abilities, with the capacity to collaborate cross‑functionally and adapt to shifting priorities.
- Resourcefulness, creativity and initiative, paired with solid problem‑solving and organizational skills.
- Comfort working with digital platforms and social media, with an authentic interest in emerging trends and conversations shaping today’s cultural landscape.
- A genuine interest in global issues – particularly children’s rights, girls’ equality, youth engagement and international development.
- Passion for mission‑driven work and values aligned with Plan International Canada.
- An adaptable, collaborative work style suited to high‑performing, diverse teams.

Plan International Canada is a hybrid workplace. You will work from the office and from home.
The salary range for this position is anticipated to be between $50,000 and $62,000. We comprehensively evaluate a variety of factors to determine fair compensation, including experience, specific job-related skills, and relevant educational or professional training. Additionally, we ensure that compensation is equitable across our team and aligns with current market trends. This role also qualifies for an extensive benefits package and generous paid time off.
